HSE I (NUR I) focuses on developing essential skills for patient and clinical care while providing an overview of healthcare delivery systems. Students participate in lab experiences aligned with their specific career interests, gaining real-world insight into nursing and related professions. The course emphasizes the development of medical language and terminology skills needed for effective communication in healthcare settings. Students study medical abbreviations, symbols, and the meanings of Greek and Latin word parts within the context of human anatomy and physiology. The course strengthens students’ ability to accurately interpret and communicate medical information, including the pronunciation, spelling, and usage of medical terms across all body systems.

HSE II ( NUR II) prepares students for the National Healthcare Association’s CCMA exam and introduces both clinical and administrative responsibilities in medical settings. Instruction covers taking vital signs, assisting with examinations, collecting and processing laboratory specimens, administering medications, performing venipuncture and ECGs, and providing patient education. Students also gain experience in managing medical records, scheduling appointments, and understanding ethical and legal standards in healthcare communication and documentation.

Upon completion, students will have a strong foundation in healthcare principles, medical terminology, and clinical procedures—essential preparation for postsecondary nursing programs and careers in the healthcare field.
