The five areas of study in the C4 Human Services cluster focus on students who are interested in working closely with people in a service career.

Early Childhood Education prepares students for employment in early childhood education and related services and provides the foundation for study in higher education that leads to early childhood education and other child-related careers. Intensive experience in one or more childcare / preschool or school laboratories, resumes, and career portfolios are required components.

Teacher Education prepares students for employment in education and related careers and provides the foundation for study in higher education that leads to teaching and other education related careers. Intensive laboratory or field experience in one or more classroom settings, resumes, and career portfolios are required components.

Culinary Arts prepares students for occupations and higher education programs of study related to the entire spectrum of careers in the food industry. Intensive laboratory experience with commercial applications is included in the courses. Student laboratory experiences may be either school-based or "on-the-job" or a combination of the two.

Cosmetology prepares students to obtain the skills needed to be licensed by the Indiana State Board of Cosmetology and enables a successful graduate to take the board examination to become a cosmetologist. In this two-year program, students learn how to provide personal care to improve the appearance of hair, skin, and nails. When students attain specific competencies, they apply these acquired skills to serve public patrons in the cosmetology clinic.

Family Consumer Science classes offered in this cluster prepare students for some of the many essential skills they will need to keep themselves and their families healthy and successful.  Students may take classes in nutrition, housing and interiors, interpersonal relationships, child development and parenting, and textiles.

Student Leadership Organization

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is a national career and technical student organization for young men and women in Family and Consumer Sciences education. FCCLA members make a difference in their families, careers, and communities by addressing important personal, work, and societal issues through family and consumer science education.

Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns, including teen pregnancy, parenting, family relationships, substance abuse, peer pressure, environment, nutrition and fitness, teen violence, and career exploration. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life -- planning, goal setting, problem solving, decision making, and interpersonal communication -- necessary in the home and workplace.
